About Collioure

Collioure is a small fishing port 20km from the town of Perpignan and 20km from the Spanish border. Collioure has 2,750 inhabitants. The town is of medieval origin and is famous for its fortified church and Royal Chateau, both of which dominate the harbour.

The small harbour is situated in the Fanbourg area (devoted to anchovy fishing — hence our purchase of the factory). The beaches, once used by the Catalan Barques, are still present (but in private use) and 5 minutes’ walk away, next to the medieval chateau.

These sights, together with the rich landscape and wonderful light, have inspired such artists as Matisse, Derain, Picasso and many more. The town is now famous for the artists who have taken up residence. Many hours can be spent browsing amongst the numerous artists’ studios.
